Independent review released

The Australian Government commissioned an independent review into Australia’s livestock export trade.

The review assisted the Australian Government to establish safeguards to ensure there will be verifiable and transparent supply chain assurance up to and including the point of slaughter for every consignment that leaves Australia.

The specific issues that the review examined are outlined in the terms of reference.

Mr Bill Farmer AO was appointed to undertake the review and provided a final report to the government on 31 August 2011.

The review involved a combination of desk top analysis and in–country assessment of major importers of Australian livestock. Independent technical expertise was drawn on to assist Mr Farmer in completing the review.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry provided secretariat support for the review.
