I am 'for' live trade and my reasons are and the time I have got to write:-

There is no doubt I was appalled at what we all saw on the TV 4 corners show on the treatment of our cattle from Australia.

Using the stunn guns are imperative and I have seen the use and had demonstrated of this at agriculture colleges in WA and this is being taught to the next generation of rural men and women of WA - a accepted pratice for killing your own meat for private farm consumption and for butchering trades.

I have been told from my brothers who have had the privelidge to travelled on the transfer boats from Darwin thru to the overseas countries - that the travell of this is more than adequate and how well they are managed, fed and watered on the journey.

Preparation of the stock by our cattlemen are excellent and takes a long time to statisfy the weight and condition needed to prepare for sale.

They are to be 350kgs and as you saw on TV in wonderful personality/temperment, age and looks.

What has really made me concerned that here was no consultation to suspension - within 24 hrs it was in place. And there was not thought of the consequences to the cattle to the men and women who bred them and live with it day in and day out.

The consequences are still prevalant and the stock in northern WA have endured dry drought and then floods and then the quick halt of their market.

Now the cattle oar over weight due to being held and or remustered at huge costs.

I believe there is to much more negotiations with Indonesia and a real lot of work her now than ever before.

Cattlement have high values and high characters and they love their stock.

I am concerned at the duress that the men and women and communites have been put under and how much pressure it will take and have to stay doing what they love.
